Question cold toyota paseo

93 toyota paseo seems to have little heat. Only gets slightly more than lukewarm after car is driven for long periods. Warmer on recirc air than on outside air. Dash temp gage shows proper engine temp. Replaced thermostat just in case. Also what little heat there is will not shift from defrost to feet (lever will go but no results from it.) Is this prob a diy project?

Coolant should not be 100 % antifreeze, only 50/50 antifreeze /water because although antifreeze can hold a lot of heat{much more than water}, it can't transfer it well but water can transfer heat well to the rad. fins This is probably not your problem but 100 percent antifreeze will give less heat output from the heater.

make sure it is full of coolant first and then warm engine up and grab heater hoses where they enter firewall both should be warm to the touch if they are you have a blend door problem most likely, the blend doors or either operated by cable or vacum unsure of wich on this model.

New thermostat and proper mix of coolant (I assume, son and father-in-law did that and both have work with cars before.) I notice that when you shift the lever from defrost to floor I don't hear the "shift" sound as when going to panel. Some heat does come out at floor but not real forceful like dash. Could it not be closing all the way and allowing some cold air leakage or do some vehicles just heat better than others?

more than likely you do not have a door closing all the way causing poor heating performance which may require alot of dash removal to fix depending on what exactly is broken, and may be something you want to take to a shop to have fixed,
some vehicles do heat better than others but it sounds as if yours is not working very good at all.
