Clutch problem

Question

I have a 2000 Eclipse with 55000 miles. This morning I could not put the car in gear and if I forced it, then it would grind. Does this pretty much mean I will need a new one? What else could be wrong with it? Any advice or knowledge about it would help me out alot. Thanks

Sounds to me as if the clutch is not fully disengaging. Assuming that this is a hydraulic clutch, is there plenty of fluid in the reservoir? If fluid is down you need to add brake fluid and may need to bleed the system of air (if it got that low). Is there any adjustment on the slave cylinder whereby you can get additional throw when you step on the pedal? Has any work been done on the clutch recently?
