Bronco II

I have a 87 Bronco II XLT the I don;t know if I have a problem or not but my dash lights and my headlights are dimming down and when I hit gas they get bright till I stop and at idle then they get dim again. I live a good ways out and not by a auto parts store so I would like to know does this sound like the altenator and should I get it checked. Thanks for any help I would like to catch it before it happens to go bad if anyone thinks this may be the problem.

it sounds as though your alternater is getting tired but if you replace it i would suggest buying a good brand such as an a/c delco remanufactured one, i think it is probably still charging but not capable of putting out the amperage it used to. also if it has an external regulator it would be a good idea to replace it at the same time.
