Audi brakes

I have a 1997 Audi A6. I bought a special universal adapter to retract the pistons on the rear brakes. I can't get the pistons to screw in enough to install new pads. Is there a trick a DIY'er can use to screw the piston back in to the caliper? Don want to buy the $300 Snap On tool to do a one time job.
Many thanks.

Ya have a 1997 Audi and you're complaining about a 300 dollar tool? (Get used to it, Audis cost you cash in a jiffy and frequently).....

Go to Autozone and rent their tool. They do not charge, it's probably better and should get the job done. Failing that, the caliper may be wiped.
