Keyless remote trunk release - cavalier

2000 Cavalier (out of warranty)

The trunk release on my keyless remote is not working. At first it was an intermittent problem...now the trunk release has stopped working. When I press it I here the clicking noise from under the dash and see the headlights flash but the trunk does not open.

thanks
hanton

May have a problem with the module that controls the release or the transmitter is bad.

Does another transmitter do the same thing?

Check autolibrary below to see if they have any information on the system.

Failing that, I would say a GM service manual would be the best reference.

Open the trunk, find the release actuator, and connect a test light to it. Then press the button. If you have power, then the actuator is bad. If not, then either the wiring or control module is bad.

Could be the actuator or the striker needs adjustment or lubed. The solenoid attached to the actuator may be weak. If you have a button in the car like in the glove box does it fail also, if it does than you know the problem is in the trunk.
