92 Cherokee Speedometer

My 92 cherokee speedometer does not always work. It will stay pinned down at 0 mph and does not register mileage. It will suddenly spring forward and start to work once I hit about 50 miles per hour. This usually occurs when the vehicle is first started and is cold. Any tips on what might be causing this and how it can be corrected?

most likely is the vehicle speed sensor going bad, usually located on the transmision or transfer case, and is easy to install.
