'96 Windstar missfire

When the "check engin " light comes on it sets a "missfire on number 4 cylinder" code. Most times it will clear the code by it self only to reset it again. Some times within a short time, end other times it will be several days.I have replaced the sparkplug cable for no.4 cyl. cleaned the fuel injectors, replaced no.4 injector , but it still sets the same code. Could the problem be with the coil pack? If it is how do I check it? I'm not familiar with the "coil pack" are there 6 individual coils on the pack? The van is a 1996 Windstar , 3.8 engine. Thank you very much for your help

You might also want to do a very thorough cooling system pressure test. These things are known for headgasket failures.

When the gasket begins to fail, coolant enters the cylinder & causes a misfire, which sets the misfire code.

You'll probably need to take it to a shop for this test. A good shop will actually do more than 1 test to confirm or rule out the headgasket as the source of the misfire.
