95 mazda millinia, automatic transmission

I have a 1995 mazda millinia, with automatic transmission, runs great. Has 100,000 miles on it. I parked it on a flat surface but the gear shifter will not come out of park? Help!

Check to see if your brake lights are working. If not, check the brake switch (on top of the brake pedal). Also check the brake fuse. If all check ok, then your shift interlock is faulty. You may be able to shift the car to neutral when you turn on the key to on, but not start the car, or there may be a way to override the interlock.

Do as the other poster suggested. Do not bypass the interlock. Fix it properly.
