cv axle question

Hi all, I'm wondering if the shorter half-shaft normally wears faster then the longer.

I'm having the tranny replaced in my grand caravan and the boot seems to have been breached on the inner left cv joint. The repair shop says it was that way when they pulled it in there, and I believe them.

I do check those sorts of things but it had been a while since I had.

So.... I plan to replace the entire half shaft.. Is it possible to clean the joint and re grease it with a new boot and be ok? These guys are really flexible so I could go get it from them and take it back for them to replace in the van.

I'm wondering if the innards wear faster in the cv joints on the shortest shaft, not necessarily only the boot.

I don't want to replace all cv shafts... since mine has 4!

Replace the shafts; cheap insurance in the long run considering you're already going to the expense of replacing the tranny.
