Question New Key Won't Start Car

It's the craziest thing, but I had a key made for my husband today for our new (used) car. My key starts the car fine, but with the new key, it cranked once, died and won't crank at all now. It will open the doors, but that is about it. Is this normal?

Please post more details and answer the questions asked . We shouldn't have to keep working to get the information.

1) Who made the key? If not a locksmith or a dealer, first problem.
2) Does the key have a chip/computer/electronic security system? If you don't know, have the locksmith tell you.

Beyond that, does the other key start the vehicle? If it does, key related, if not, you could just have a dead battery or other problems.

Need more detail.
