vapor canister???

I have an 89 fulsize blazer (this is to help me with thread "Code 54") with a 350cid. The vapor canister has 3 ports; fuel tank, air cleaner"vent", and vacuum to throttle body. The repair manual says to hook a vacuum pump to the upper port and see if it holds. I hooked to hte upper vent, which is the vent to the fuel tank, and it will not hold any vacuum. Is this in reference to the canister itself (the vacuum to the TB) port or the vacuum switch for the canister, which mine has none? In my case, does the TB regulate the vacuum so the canister flows through at all times?

i believe this model vapor canister is hooked to the throttle body on ported vacum and does flow any time it recieves vacum, and i doubt it has anything to do with your check engine light.

I answered my own question by doing a few checks with a vacuum gauge. The ported vacuum from the throttle body controls the tank. Thanks
