VW Oil Pump removal

Hi all,

I suspect my oil pump is on the verge of failing. The oil pressure warning light comes on regularly when the engine is going about 200 rpm with open throttle under load. The light also comes on sometimes when the engine is idling.

I have a pretty good idea of what this procedure will take, but i'm still curious to know if there's anything special i shoud be aware of, such as weather or not i need a special tool for removal? or what exactly should i look for as signs of wear?

Jetta 1988 1.8L 8V gas engine

Did you do an oil pressure check with a hand held gauge? First step.

Barring that, you could have a bad oil pressure sending unit.
