Idel not good!!

I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota with 3.9L V6 on very cold mornings it starts and idels fine but on average mornings or anytime when I first start it it will not idel smoothly the rpm jumps from 400 to 1000 if I put it in gear it dies. Once I have driven it a few minutes it stops and idels normal. Any ideas on what to start checking? I have ohmed out the IMS and it read 10K with the engine slightly warm.
Thanks
Pat

Back to the dealer. Under warranty and their problem.

Likely a wasted idle air control valve or dirt in the throttle body. Could also be a vacuum leak.

If you are near an Autozone have them pull the codes on it and see what comes up.

Thanks I'll have it read this weekend. My warranty ended last month.
