trans. fluid change

I have a 97 dakota and 98 Accord I want to change trans fluid by suction the fluid out from the trip tip tube. is this good enought to get all the old fluid out? And also can I do the same thing to the engine oil?

Completely draining the tranny pan is not enough to get "all" of the fluid out.

There will still be about half of the total capacity in the torque converter.

However, if you do suck the fluid out you'll have a much less messy time changing the filter.

And yes you can suck the oil out through the dipstick. You probably won't get as much out as compared to pulling the drain plug, but it won't hurt anything.

Don't forget to change the filter (if so equipped) at the same time.
