Question Odometer replacement

Wondering if someone out there can offer some advise on replacing the odometer gauge on a 1997 Niassan Pathfinder. The spedometer works fine. I was told the entire display has to be replaced. I found one at a junk yard - the question is...how difficult is it to replace the entire display? I'm a novice at car repair...suggestions? Is there a website I can go to for instructions? Or, should I just pay the guy at the garage to fix it for me?

Thank you,

You should pay to have it done because you will need to affix an odometer statement to the door showing that the speedo was replaced. The old mileage has to be recorded.

When you sell the vehicle, it is disclosed that the odometer was changed. This I believe is a federal law.

In this fashion, you will have a record that it was done.
