Air Conditioner/Altenator Problems

My car is a 1995 Nissan 200sx. When my air conditioner is running it makes my car cut off and it apparantly drains my altenator. I have replaced the altenator but I am not sure what the problem is. Can you offer some suggestions of what to check out?

Thanks in advance!

Where is the alternator from? If not an OEM rebuilt, return it and pick one up. Rebuilt alternators vary greatly in quality.

The alternator was purchased from Auto Zone. This is also the second altenator I have had replaced on this car. The first one was replaced by the dealer. And I only seem to have the problem when the air conditioner is on.

It may be the the wrong one or an undersized one (my guess).

I would go with a dealer one and be sure you have the right one and one that will work with all your accessories.

Good luck.

Have Autozone check the charging system on your car, they'll do it for free. Also how old is your battery? You need to have it load tested(Autozone) as if the battery is marginal it will take out the alternator.
