Engine dies in my '97 GrandAm

My 1997 Pontiac Grand Am SE dies after starting and idleing normally. When it is put in gear and moved, it will die. Sometimes I am able to drive for a while and when I slow down, it will die. Has anyone out there had this problem? I am open to any suggestions. Thankyou.

Engine and tranny type/details would be a collosal help. Too vague here to help out. Need more information.

See the top of the forum for "Read here before posting" and post back the required details.

More info on grand am

Car is a 1997 Grand Am SE. Eng.-2.4L Quad 4. Trans.-elec. overdrive (mech. thought it is a 440 TE). The vin number is 1g2ne52t0vm539976. The mech. has checked out most everything he can think of . I don't have all the details of what he has checked, but the car will just die for no apparent reason.
