advice-mazda 626-won't start

1995 Mazda 626
It won't start. When turning the key, nothing happens...not even a sound. The starter won't even turn.
I changed the battery and that didn't work.
Please advice.
Thanks.

Check your battery cables and connections at both ends for tightness and corrosion.

Barring that, tap on the starter body with a hammer (not too hard). If the car now starts, wasted starter.

Do any of the warning lights come on when you turn the key forward?

Thanks Joe F!

I've noticed that the (+) cable clamp is corroded. The metal is so thin compared to the (-) clamp. Both clamps are loose no matter how hard I tightened it. I'll try replacing them.
All warning lights come on like normal when I turn the key...if that's what you're asking...

Change your cable ends and clean them up and go from there.

626 wont start

Have you checked the cluch cut out switch?
I believe the cluch must be completly engaged to allow the starter to operate.
If you have fixed this problem let us know what you did to fix it.

626 is fixed

thanks for the reply daniel. the clutch thing was one of the things i checked. but that wasn't the problem. it was so simple that i can't believe i missed it. joe f did give me an idea where to look. the connection from the battery to the starter was loose and corroded. i cleaned the terminal and the plug...and it started right up.
