1994 3.8L merucury sable

This car has 90k, "AXOD" transaxle and has just exhibited the following symptoms, delay in upshift from when cold, harsh downshift again while cold and erratic speedometer output. Fluid level and condition check out fine. Thanks for any help.

Anything from a bad shift solenoid to a grenaded tranny. These trannies are piss poor in original quality.

FQR (Ford replacements) easily exceed the value of the car . Also the 3.8 is notorious for bad head gaskets, watch out.

You might have someone scan for any vehicle speed sensor codes which can cause transmission concerns but usually not just during cold temperatures.Just a thought!!

Agreed with having the car scanned for codes, there may also be some sort of tranny codes stored also. I've always found alot of trannys that have "cold" operational problems have a partially plugged tranny filter and marginal fluid. Both will cause shifting problems especially when cold and the fluid viscosity is slightly thicker. Has the tranny had the fluid flushed/changed and a new filter installed?
