2002 Honda Civic
My son recently bought a new 2002 Honda Civic SI, he has been having his oil changed at a drive through where he lives and in conversation I found out that they have been putting 10/W/30 in it but it calls for 5/W//20, He has put about 6000 miles on it - two oil changes- do you think this may have caused any damage?

My sister's VW Jetta can take either that or 5W30. Since 5W30 is available and cheaper, I use that . It will give some extra protection in the summer.
You don't want heavy oil in the winter---it takes longer to pump up. The # before the W is winter grade (how the oil acts in the winter so to speak).
Stick with only the grades the owner's manual recommends. Study the recommended oil charts in the owner's manual to learn what they want.
My sister's book says, ".....and 5W30 may also be used", but says that below the chart .
