1988 Escort fuel relay

I have been trying to locate the fuel relay for my 88 Ford Escort. I have looked everywhere. I tore out the carpets, jacked it up and looked underneath, under the hood and I can not find it. I thought that it was the fuel pump and changed it twice. Out of curiosity I hooked the pump up to the fuse panel and it worked. It still idles up and down, but it ran. I have the new relay, but if anyone can help me with the location I would be eternally greatful.

Should be a green or brown relay under a cover on the driver's fender.

It would suit you well to pick up a repair manual---it has that needed information.

Isn't there a reset in the rear behind the panel on the drivers side???

You are thinking of the fuel pump inertia switch. That shuts the fuel pump off in case of a collision, but yes, it could pop and render the fuel pump dead.

That is a good point. Most Ford products with fuel injection have this inertia switch. The owner's manual details the location and the reset procedure.
