Broken fusible link or missing main ground.
It would be a collosal help to know what type and year of vehicle we are dealing with.

It's a 76 chev p/u, I took out a 400sb and put in this 305.
I have power to the solenoid but thats it.

Why on God's green earth you'd put a puny 305 in there is beyond me
.
Check the fusible link coming off the starter and check for any breaks in the wires closely as well as any grounds you may have missed.

Yup it was a bad ground at the soleniod! Thanx.
I put a 305 in because it will not overheat like a 400 will and it will be better on gas ( it costs over $70.00 to fill both tanks on this truck!)still a torqy engine too. Thanks again for the info.

Good deal.

Hey , I did'nt put my location on here. I'm in Washington state.
I don't know what the freight would be on an engine?
I'd probably want about 100.00 for it. I think it needs a new top end.
