Question Update of late 70's Ford I-6 300

Was wondering if it is feasible to take a late 70's Ford I-6 300 short block and put all the goodies (fuel injection and stuff) from a 1990 model engine on, with out major hairpulling.

Since you're pondering upgrading from original just chuck the 6 and go V8.

Is it possible? Sure. It is feasible? No.

You're going to complicate a simple simon 70's pleasure to work on engine with complex goblygook.

Leave it stock. If anything, upgrade the point type distributor (if so equipped) to electronic and just drive it .

Mattison, the thought of abandoning what is probably one of the most dependable and bullet proof of all engines is almost, well, sacrilegious I just don't think I could bring my self to do it.

Joe, lol thanks for the re-assurance

The motor isn't bad, everything connected to it is crap . Seriously, Ford's carburetion back then was bottom barrel, and not even designed by them .

I would say leave it simple. No need to complicate what runs fine and is easy to work on.

Nothing against the reliability it is a good engine, I used to work in a machine shop as the prep guy and we had an account with a local bread company and all their trucks had these 300's in them. I've torn down probly 200+ of these, hot tanked them bead blasted them, and magnafluxed them. I used to see them in my sleep.

But ya know there was seldom any that got trashed because of cracks.

I'm just a V8 kinda guy too.

If you really wanted to convert it, you could go with a holly kit. But I think you would be happier in the long run if you were to put an injected 351 in it.
