Tranny broke
Well, finally had a failure on the W-4; lost reverse the other day. Waiting for the tranny shop to work us in.
340,000 total miles/160,000 miles since last opened up; direct drive piston only part replaced at that time, so all else is still factory original parts. Pretty good for the amount of abuse it takes.
Will post back when I found out what crapped.

160k in that type of enviornment is like 300k on a regular car. There is a lot of stress and abuse on a truck like that.
Go with upgraded parts from GM or a reliable supplier. Chances are the parts have been upgraded since the last rebuild.
It may pay to go with a Goodwrench rebuilt on this truck---it will have all upgrades made to the platform.

Checked on it this morning and they have it opened up. Direct drive piston intact, but some seal related to it was bad. Also some burned clutches and some getting close. Not bad for 340k; remember the only real part with 160k on it is the replaced d.d. piston (which was an upgraded item). The tranny guy is pretty amazed. Surprising what you can get out of equipment with the proper P.M. - in this case fluid every 10k, filter every 20k (Sam's Club generic!)
