Angry trailer wiring hook up

Anyone know how to wire a trailer wire hook up to hte taillights of a vehicle? I wired up everything but when the lights are on and I hit the brakes, I lose my taillights and brake lights on the trailer, but I still have signals? Go figure!!!

You did not mention type veh. Later models P/U have a built in wiring harness.
Assume you have a 4 wire system?

Sounds like a bad ground. Try a putting a temporary jumper from trailer to vehicle see if it gets better, if so its a ground problem.

What type of vehicle?

Hoppy LiteMate, Valley and other trailer harness companies make direct plug in adapters so you don't have to cut into anything. That's the correct and only way to go.

Back to the parts store for the correct kit to avoid headaches.
