1988 Buick Regal Ignition Lock Replace

The Ignition Lock on my 1988 Buick Regal is broken, i.e, when the key is in the lock, it turns freely (too freely with no resistance), but does not activate anything. The lock is on the steering column and I have tilt steering. I am trying to replace it and have removed the steering wheel and the turn signal electronics plate, but I am having trouble removing the plate (cover) just above the lock. Can anyone tell me how to remove this plate and how to replace the ignition lock?

I think you have to pull the whole steering column to replace it. Try http://www.cybrrpartspro.com/Manual%...delLookup.html for instructions

If you mean the plate over the column that hides access to the lock cylinder, on most GM's you need a lock plate tool. 20 bucks at Sears or any tool supplier.

I agree with Weld---see if autolibrary.org has anything.
