84 Chev. Caprice/sw power loss

my 84 Caprice with a 305cid 87000 miles org. has a accereration problem it was power lacking when I got it then it got better with use, I suspect it was sitting in a garage now there is a great power loss I rebuilt the carb. still same problem. I feel the problem is not internal could it be the cat. converter ? how do I check the converter? or what else would cause this problem like EGR, disb. pick up, oxygen sensor etc. ?

Quadrajets are tricky. You have to know the ins and outs of them. It depends on what you mean by acceleration problem.

Off the line? Flat to the floor? Passing gear? Cruising?

An exhaust shop can easily check the catalytic converter with a temperature probe or backpressure tester to see if it's stuffed.

If the vehicle has not seen a thorough tuneup in a long time, there is the place to start.
