Key does not turn in the ignition

I have a 99 Durango. Sometimes I can't get the key to turn the ignition. It has taken up to 45 minutes before I could get the key to turn the ignition switch.

Does the Durango have some sort of safety device that prevents the key from turning the ignition switch?

I've tried turning the wheel to the left and right without any success.

This has hqppened 3 times in the past 2 weeks.

Does anyone have any ideals?

Might try some lock lub, try another key. If this does not work suggest you get some professional help with it. Lock may need replaced due to mis aligned/broken tumblers.

Have the dealer check your shifter linkage. That would cause jamming of the cylinder. They are known problems on some.

My coworker had his 2000 Durango slip out of park and crash into a post.

These vehicles are a lot of trouble. My sister had a 1999 and pitched it for an 02 Tahoe, the Durango was always in the shop.
