Transmittion help

I have a 91 Chevy Cavalier LS with a 2.2 litre engine, and auto transmittion. The car has around 140K miles. My problen is this, when the car has been running for about 20 minutes, the transmittion will not shift into 1st. When I try to stop, the car "shimmies" and dies (as a standard transmittion vehicle would do if you tried to stop without depressing the clutch). When I start the car again and put it in drive, it jumps and dies. I don't know much about tranny's, so any advice or ideas would be helpful.

Wasted torque converter clutch solenoid. Disconnect the square four pin connector up top (or have a shop do it for you) and see if the problem goes away.

If it does, leave it disconnected.
