93 chevy cavalier auto. transmission

Sometimes I come up to a light or stop sign and the transmission doesnt downshift, so the car dies. And if the light changes and it doesnt die it feels like it is taking off at a really low rpm. It doesnt happen all of the time, only when I have been driving for a while or if I am stuck in traffic. I have been told by people that this is the torque converter controller lockup solenoid. I was wondering if that was the case or if it was something else. If it is the solenoid would anyone be able to give me the page # or diagram # from the chilton's book that I have. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Disconnect the four wire connector on the front near the top of trans and try it ,if it's better it is the tcc solenoid, you may leave it disonnected or change the solenoid if you wish.

Davo's right on the money. I agree. Happened on my own 1989 Cavalier.
