4x4 transmission question

Have a quick question about a specific engine. I don't have a whole lot of information about it since it is for a friend. Will a 2 wheel drive transmission mount up to the transfer case on a 4 wheel drive existing engine? The engine is a 318 dodge with 4 wheel drive.

He wants to mount a 2 wheel drive transmission to the 4 wheel drive transfer case and have the 4 wheel drive still work. Any information about whether this will work or not would be helpful.

It might if it is the same model transmission. I would make sure you have the same spline count and bolt pattern, because they can very within the same year.

I know a chevy you have to swap out tailshaft housings. Maybe try that. I don't know anything about dodges.

If you remove the tail shaft housing you're still left with a longer output shaft. So no it won't work.
