Timing of 1995 mazda 626?

I just picked up a 1995 Mazda 626 4cyl that a young man says he could not get started. I got this car for just about nothing and he even payed to have it towed to my house, so if I end up having to put out some money I will still be sitting good.
Compression is good, it has or at least seems to have fuel(plugs are wet) and fire at the plugs. In looking at the distributor and wires I found the spark plug wires to be in order of 1,2,3,4. With the little experence I have this does not seem like the firing order I have come accross on other engines. What is the correct firing order and what is the timing supposed to be set at?
I will also be looking into the timing belt to see if it nees to be changed.
