Blinker on 2001.5 VW Passat GLS
I have been having this problem for the last few months. The car is a 2001.5 late model VW Passat GLS 1.8 T 4 cyl automatic. Around 20,000 miles when I am stopped in traffic I put the blinker light on (usually left blinker). It will blink sometimes just a few times then blink rapidly, and stop. Usually if I pull it up and down again it will work fine. I have tried to get at the tail lights to see if I could replace them but VW's are not very user friendly and it took me 2 hours to try to take out the whole trunk lining, which is the only way of getting at the lights. I would just like to see if anyone has had a similar problem and what they did. Maybe its electrical? I'd rather not pay 150 dollars to have this fixed at VW.
One other problem I have noticed is in the morning when starting the car, the engine seems to shake fairly ferociously for about 10 seconds if I attempt to back up right after starting. This only happens in the morning though. Don't know if that might be a starter.

It's a virtually new vehicle, should let VW handle it under the factory warranty and not mess with it.
Probably a short in the socket which is causing the turn signal problem.
As for the hesitation, the starter has nothing to do with it---could be just about anything though.
Suggest you bring it to VW and let them handle it at no charge--you paid enough for a VW, let them make good on keeping it up for you under the warranty.
My sister's 2k 2.0L Jetta blew the head gasket at 15k, so I'm duly unimpressed with this or just about any other VW.
