96 izuzu engine

I have a 96 acura slx (izuzu trooper) and when running the engine clicks or almost makes a tapping sound. it does this louder at first when it is cranked up then you have to listen for it to hear it. is there anything i can do as far as the valves, oil, or something to help and to add years to the engine?

thanks for your time,

I'm not familiar with the engine in that particular vehicle, but you might check a repair manual to see if the valves are adjustable. You may have excessive clearance which would be most noticeable cold when there is less or no oil to act as a "cushion".

Beyond that, regular oil and filter changes.

If an oil pressure check with a reliable gauge reveals no problems, I would leave it alone .

I have heard numerous complaints about this problem. Check Alldata for your ticking noise, else ask dealer for any tsb's concerning this problem. There may be an easy a fix.
