Cold Weather

My '84 Ford Ranger runs pretty good on nice warm days, but when it's cold out, it's just the opposite, it dies everytime I come to a stop, even after a good warmup and having driven for a few miles. When I see a stop coming up, I put it in neutral, left foot over the brake, right foot on gas to keep running, and coast to the stop. I've gone through all the basic tuneup stuff and all that checks out ok, so it's got to be something more. Why does it idle good on warm days but not cold? Thanks a lot.

When was the last time it saw a tuneup or carburetor service?

That year Ranger has a carburetor and it's complete trash .
