Axle fluid change?

Axle fluid change?

I have a 2002 Dodge Durango 4.7 L 15,000 miles, My manual says to change the the front and rear axle fluid at 12,000 miles, but it also states in the manuel that Daimler Chrysler does not reccommend regularly scheduled oil changes for axles in vehicles whose operation is classified as normal truck service, but in the back of the manuel in my maintenance schedule I try and follow says to change the axle fluid! Is this a DIY? And how often should this fluid be changed on normal driving conditions with very little towing done?

If your truck only sees average use I would stick with what the manufacturer recommends in the back of the book. Yes, this is a DIY, but it can get messy. So, if you do it your self put down some cardboard.

Change the fluid.....Chrysler's in business to sell vehicles not perpetuate yours
