1991 corolla drive axle

While changing the drive axle, what is the purpose of clip at the goes into the end of the drive axle where it connects to the transaxle. Is it ok to force (with hammer) drive axle into the transaxle. Thanks for your help in advance.

the clip is what retains the joint in the transaxle you could probably use a rubber mallet to help fully seat the axle, usually it will pop in with a good push though.

You have to use a punch, tire iron, pry bar or something simular and catch it in the groove thats on the stub that go's into the trans axel. A couple of good raps with a good size hammer will pop it in.

Also a hint have the snap ring opening at the bottom it helps.
