need help w/92 caravan

I have two problems:

1: 92 dodge caravan. this past thursday while driving in town it began to overheat. temperature gage inside rose to overheated level and decended to normal level persistently. upon inspection radiator fluid was boiling over the coolent reservoir. I assumed it meant it was too full, however, later that evening it happened again. THERMOSTAT?

2: I started vehicle last night. "check gages" light came on. I checked all fuses and electrical connections - headlamps were operating even though the light switch was not depressed. When i arrived home and turned the vehicle off all lights remained on. I had to disconnect negative terminal to shut electrical down. Any thoughts?
