power steering whoa

I have a 1996, Ford Explorer, 4WD, 210,000 km....recently my power steering resvoir started leaking, topped up yesterday, same groan at low speeds and turning today. I'm hoping its a minor fix like a hose, or is likely the compressor?

You'll need to pinpoint the source of the leak to be sure, but the pump would be a prime candidate for replacement with that mileage. Be sure you have the proper tools before you start if you're going to d-i-y- it.

Power Steering

I agree with the Tow Guy I would take a hard look at the pump itself. Everytime I've ever had a power steering leak it's been the pump that was leaking. Result: Replacing the pump.
