want to take off original factory paint on 1985 chev monte carlo
down to factory primer. want to get ready for repaint without arm and leg to boot! any help greatly apprec.

Depends on the job quality you want.

Show or finish quality: Let the shop do everything or you remove the trim and such and have them do the body work.

Best way.

You doing the prep work: No warranty from the shop, poor quality job if you use incompatible materials. Waste of time. Some shops won't even take cars prepped outside.

You save very little except by removing everything yourself and bringing them a bare body to work with. .
