Car going whacko?? Please help!!

Yesterday afternoon, my wife went to start her 88 Grand Prix 2.8L after it was sitting in the parking lot at work since morning. She said she started the car, but as soon as it started, the "Brake" idiot light came on, the temperature gauge needle shot up real high and the radiator cooling fan kicked in. She immediately shut the car down, fearing the worse. She then started it up after a few moments and it all appeared fine.

I looked at it last night and all semed fine too. The coolant and oil levels are fine, the brakes are fine, the thermostat opened like it should and the fan kicked in when it should. Any ideas? Perhaps a fluke?? Thanks!!!

Could be a bad alternator, it will do things like that.
