Help with a stick shift problem

I have a 92 chevy caviler stick shift 4 cycl. motor . I was coming home and it had been getting harder to shift . I came home and I went to shift in my drive way no way it would shift to much play but it never came out of 5th gear. This car has no transmisson
problems . and the motor has always been great. Can you help .
I feel this is a small problem

check your shifter cable may be broken or came off at the transmission, have someone move the gear shift through the gears and see if the cable is moving under the hood at the transmission.

I agree. Mileage? When was the last time the clutch was done?
