88 Olds-no brake lights

88 Olds-no brake lights

Betsy has no brake lights, we changed the brake light switch, flashers and checked light bulbs, tail lights and signals workm, any suggestions on what do to next????

You may have a broken ground in the system which will cut off the lamps. I would change (not check) each bulb. Make sure they are the right part # and in correctly. Bad or wrong bulbs do wonders on a lighting system.

You could also have a bad turn signal switch. The brake lights feed through there. Check the connector from the switch at the base of the steering column. Often, the terminals get brittle and break off. Happened to a coworkers car years ago. A new switch from GM cured the problem.

If your turn signals and hazard flashers work I would replace the turn signal switch as Joe suggested.The switch is where the brake/turn signals interact so to speak.
