Tranny: Good in Drive, Bad in Reverse..Help!

Thinking about buying a 1973 450 sl mercedes very reasonable because of the transmission. I drove it in "Drive" and ran well, shifted great, no slipping but in reverse, it will move when the motor idles but give it gas and it doesnt excel like it should. Its funny because I just test drove a Jeep..did the same thing...BTW: Automatic transmission...anybody have any ideas?

Thumbs down

It's "reasonable" for a reason. A new transmission will soak you fiercely in an old heap like this. Skip it, there is better out there for the price, and you'll find another one.

This is a money pit waiting to happen.
