Fuel Pressure Regulator

I was wondering how do you check a Fuel Pressure Regulator. Someone told me to pull the hose off the regulator and rev up the engine to see gas came out the top of it. If it didn't then it was bad. The regulator is on a 2.2 L Chevy and easy accessed. The problem I am having is a hard start when hot. The motor cranks fine but doesn't turn over when the engine is warm.

Check fuel pressure first with a reliable hand held gauge. Autozone can rent you one. Follow the directions with the gauge.

I agree with Joe, check the fuel pressure and fuel flow. Also see how long the fuel pressure is held after shutting off the key. Your fuel pressure should hold (generally speaking) 5-10 minutes an loose only a couple psi on the guage. Usually, if the regulator is bad, it'll effect running after the car is started....Sounds like maybe the fuel pump is bleeding off pressure...
