Driver's Side Window Repair

I have a 1995 Olds Cutlass. The glass on the driver's side window separated from the black casing that makes the window move up and down. I need to know how to fix this? I took it to a auto glass shop and the guy said that the casing and the glass are fused together at the factor and that I would need to replace the whole window at $500! I'm not wanting to spend that much, but I would like it fixed. Any suggestions? If I need to show pictures, let me know and I'll get some.

I believe him to be correct. Try finding a used setup on www.junkyarddog.com
