89 ford tempo check engine light
The check engine light on my 89 ford tempo (2.3 litre) comes on when I am driving for sometimes (motor hot)it is erratic. It does not appear to come on in the winter time. I noticed that when the light is on the engine appears rougher. Could this be caused by a bad oxygen sensor or something else? the car mileage 120000 miles.

Pull the trouble codes from the computer and post back.

Don't be surprised if the code IS for an O2 sensor. What you describe is one of the symptoms, but don't just change it without getting the codes out first as Joe recommends.
The procedure to d-i-y the code reading is on the autolibrary:

If you don't have an analog meter you can use a simple test light. Also, on some make/models the check engine light will flash the codes once you jumper the pins and turn the key on.
