PS fluid compatible w/ ATF?

Toyota dealership put in PS fluid in PS pump instead of the recommended ATF. They said it was better. I'd like to switch it to a synthetic ATF due to the extreme heat problems here in Phoenix (I've had to have the pump rebuilt twice). I'd like to do it myself by sucking out a partial volume w/ a turkey baster(sp?) so the ATF slowly replaces PS fluid by taking it over gradually. Are these two fluids compatible??? Engine:'93 3VZ-E. ATF: probably Mobil 1.

I've seen them used interchangably. However, follow what the owner's manual recommends.

You may be getting defective P/S pumps--that may be the cause of the 2x rebuild scenario.
