car air conditioner

When putting freon in a car, should it be running or off. Should the readings from the compressor be with the car off or on.

It really depends on the servicing equipment you're using. The machine I use at work allows me to add freon to a car either way..If servicing an empty system, I do that with the car off. Once I've added the proper amount, then I run the car to make sure the readings (pressures) are correct, and that the system is cooling properly.. I have worked with some machines that tell you not to service a system with the car running..
