GMC leaking gasket

I have a 1998 GMC pickup single cab w/4.3l engine auto trans.
my transmission recently went out . so when the mechanic took
the trans. down(i'm assuming)he said that my lower intake manifold gasket was leaking coolant. his quote was 116 dollars
for the gaskets and 270 labor. my question is can the job be
done by a do it yourselfer without any special tools. i am mechanically inclined its just i don't know how much is involved.

Sure it could be done, but there's a decent amount in the way to get to the gasket

Pick up a good service manual or an Alldata.com subscription ($25 annually) and you should have the information you need.
